Apartments in St-Petersburg

The current situation with accommodation in St.-Petersburg is not very good. Accommodations in the city range from grim and expensive to opulent and very expensive. As the vast majority of travelers to Saint-Petersburg these days are on business, hotels rarely offer varying rates for business travelers.

Some prominent hotels are unsafe - plagued by robberies and prostitution rings. The safest, really central and most comfortable (and most expensive) hotels are the Grand Hotel Europe, Astoria and the Sheraton Nevskij Palace. Their prices are from 250-350$/night and sometimes it may be a problem to get a room even with this price. In the city there are not many good hotels and so they can maintain very high prices. The hotels where the price is less (3-4 stars, 70-150$) either are very far from the center ("Pribaltiskaya", "Pulkovskaya", "Deson Ladoga", "Ohtinskaya") and to get there may be a big problem especially at night, or these hotels do not have very good conditions and service ("Sovetskaya", not renovated rooms at "Moscow").

Most hotels in Russia charge per person, not per room. For two people simply double the price. Many hotels quote their price excluding VAT (20%). The youth hostels are cheap (15-20$ for the bed in a room for 5 persons) but really ugly and grim. If you are accustomed to european or american comfort, we'd not advise you to stay there. We would like to offer alternative inexpensive accommodation in a furnished and comfortable apartment in the very historical center of Saint-Petersburg and in residental areas for any length of stay.

There are everything for living in the apartment: bedding, blankets, towels, soap, etc. If you need, it will be cleaned and tidied up. All the services are included to the price. You save you money and get the same service as at hotel or better.

For example, you save money:
- on the rental price. You get more comfort for less money.
- on restaurants. You have a fully equipped kitchen to cook your meals.
- on laundry. You have your own washing machine.
- on telephone calls. Local calls are free from the apartment, and international calls are much cheaper than at any hotel.
The same for the Internet access: if you have a laptop with you, you can connect to local ISP from the apartment. You'll be provided with Internet access cards, just write in advance.

Average prices for short-term apartments in the centre of St. Petersburg are: 1 room apartment: 50-60$, 2 rooms apartment: 60-80$, 3 rooms apartment: 70-110$. 4 rooms apartment: 120-150$. These prices are for whole apartment, not per person. Homestay (a room) in Russian family: 25-30$ per person per day.

This very nice 2 rooms apartment, total area is 63 sq. m., is located in the main street of the city, Nevsky prospect, 103, metro station Ploschad Vosstania, 3 minutes walk from metro. Western standard renovation, very modern design and furniture. It has a bedroom and a living-room, 20 and 16 sq. m. each room, king-size bed in bedroom and 2 sofa's in living room which can be used as a bed also. Large excellent bathroom, very modern kitchen, microwave oven, stove, refrigerator, TV, stereo system, phone, and everything for normal life. Nice design. Third floor without elevator, closed entrance from the street. The apartment can accommodate up to 4 people. Close to the house there are a lot of shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres, markets, local transport stations. Big discounts are possible if you stay longer than 7 days.

Apartments #2. This large really very nice 2 rooms apartment, total area is 88 sq. m., is located in the Gorohovaya street, 68, metro station Pushkinskaya, 2 minutes walk from metro, close to Nevsky Prospect (12 minutes of walk in the very interesting and safe area). In this street, just 2 houses from the apartment, lived famous Rasputin. Western standard renovation. It has a bedroom and a living-room, 22 sq. m. each room, king-size bed in bedroom and big double sofa in another room, kitchen 15 sq. m., large excellent bathroom 7,5 sq. m. with heating floor, microwave oven, refrigerator, TV, video, stereo system, new washing machine, phone, and everything for normal life. Nice design with mirrors. Parking. Security alarm system. Second floor. Close to the house there are a lot of shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres, markets, local transport stations. The price is 70$/day. Long term rent is also possible.

A note: If you are going to invite your Russian friends or ladies to your place or have parties, it's better to rent an apartment, but not a room. Attention: for the summer season an economical 1-2 rooms apartment a little away from the historical centre, close to the metro station (about 3-5 metro stations from Nevsky prospect, 20-30 minutes by public transport) are available.
